Tactics
- The M8 Armored Car can be equipped with the Light Armor Skirts, which doubles its health.
- You can also buy the .50 cal machine gun to increase its effectiveness vs. infantry units. This also helps it when chasing down PE Halftracks, as it damages the vehicles in between shots from its main gun.
- Using the greyhound to plant mines in the enemies base early on in the game is an effective tactic. These mines are also more powerful than the standard mine making them even more destructive.
- Primarily a scout vehicle, the Greyhound is best used against non-AT armed infantry and light vehicles (including the un-upgraded Puma). It can be used successfully against emplacements and slow moving/damaged tanks however only with extensive micromanagement
History
The M8 Greyhound was an American produced and fielded armored car for use in their Cavalry Recon units. The US Army preferred the lighter Greyhound design over the more heavily-armored Staghound, which was built and sent to Commonwealth units instead. The Greyhound's armor was sufficient to stop small arms fire, but the vehicle's mobility suffered in mud and snow. A standard Cavalry Recon patrol consisted of a single Greyhound supported by two Jeeps, one of which mounted an M2 60mm mortar. The M8 Greyhound chassis was also used for the M20 utility vehicle, which was a turret less Greyhound for light reconnaissance and troop transport.
