Tactics
- Infantry squads that are nearby can reinforce at an Infantry Halftrack.
- Infantry can fire from the Halftrack when inside.
- To increase the anti-tank effectiveness or your shreck'd Gren squads choose the Double AT-Effort ability from the Tank-Hunter CP-Tree. Place a Gren squad upgraded with shrecks inside the halftrack. This allows the Halftrack to become useful against enemy tanks. With its speed it can easily outflank unguarded heavy tanks.
- In the early game, support garrisoned Gewehr 43 Panzer Grenadiers with MP44 Panzer Grenadiers inside the Halftrack. They can provide deadly close range damage, and can be covered by the Gewehr 43's in case the Halftrack's health runs low. Upgrade the building that has your garrison of Gewehr 43 P. Grenadiers into a Reinforce point (It must be in territory though), and research Defensive Operations at your HQ. This allows squads in and around the Reinforce point to reinforce and heal, gaining almost invulnerability through a small skirmish. Constantly harass your opponents to prevent artillery from reaching, or a large enough army that can penetrate your defensive line.
History
The SdKfz 250 halftrack was a lighter design than the standard SdKfz 251 halftrack that was used for troop transport. Its carrying capacity was only six men (including both the driver and gunner) so infantry squads normally required two of them to transport the whole squad. It was primarily used by Panzeraufklärungsabteilung (Mechanized Reconnaissance Battalions) in Panzer, and Panzergrenadier divisions.
