Tactics

  • The Churchill Tank can only be used with the Royal Engineers Support company.
  • Unlike the American Crocodile, the Churchill Crocodile keeps its standard turret, at the cost of the hull machine gun however.
  • The flamethrower isn't mounted on the turret and instead is fixed to the front, it has a greater range than the American Crocodile however, it is same as the panzerschreck's maximum range).


History

The Churchill Crocodile was a variant of the Churchill VII Infantry Tank that sported a flamethrower instead of its hull-mounted machine-gun. The crocodile nickname came from the fuel trailer it towed behind, which provided the fuel for the flamethrower. Once the trailer was empty, and full of dangerous gasoline vapor, the trailer was unhitched so the tank could continue fighting. In the event the trailer was hit, the tank would often escape unharmed. Since it was based off of the Churchill VII, rather than the more common IV and VI models, it's frontal armour was significant. The Churchill VII was specifically up-armoured to make it impervious to the 8.8cm rounds fired from the FlaK36 and Tiger I.

The Churchill Crocodile in Company of Heroes is historically inaccurate in that it has the same armour type as the Churchill IV in-game.
